This Isn’t a Checklist

What Makes Functional Medicine Different?

Functional medicine shifts the focus from symptom management to system balance.

Rather than organizing care around isolated specialties, such as hormones, digestion, and skin, it works across systems to understand what’s disrupting your body’s ability to self-regulate. It doesn’t rely on the “wait until it breaks” model. It asks what’s happening upstream of the symptoms, and how to correct it before the disease progresses.

You’ll also notice the pace is different. Appointments are longer. The intake process is deeper. We look at how your environment, lifestyle, immune function, toxic burden, infections, and even past trauma are influencing your physiology today. Testing might include a full GI panel, a DUTCH hormone assessment, mold and mycotoxin screening, or cardiovascular inflammation markers, tools that tell us what is wrong and why it’s happening.

The other difference? You’re part of the process. At CFFH, we take time to walk you through your lab results, connect the dots, and build a strategy that makes sense to you. That clarity can be powerful, especially for patients who’ve spent years in the dark.

When Things Start Working Again

Benefits of Functional Medicine

This kind of care takes time—but for many people, that’s what finally moves the needle. Instead of reacting to symptoms, we look at how your body’s systems are working together and where things have gone off track. Patients often arrive feeling depleted, stuck, or brushed off. With the right support, things begin to shift. Energy evens out. Focus sharpens. Symptoms that once felt constant start to fade into the background.

Some benefits are subtle at first. Others are dramatic. All of them stem from treating the root cause, not just the resulting symptoms.

Patients often experience:

  • Fewer digestive issues (bloating, constipation, food reactivity)
  • More balanced energy levels throughout the day
  • Improved focus and cognitive clarity
  • Relief from chronic pain or inflammation
  • Better sleep patterns and circadian rhythm support
  • Hormonal stability, including menstrual, thyroid, and adrenal function
  • Healthy, sustainable weight regulation
  • Strengthened immune function and fewer infections
  • Reduced need for medications over time (when appropriate)
  • A clearer understanding of how to support their health long-term

Functional medicine helps you feel better, yes, but more than that, it helps you stay better.

What We Use And Why

Functional Medicine Services at CFFH

Functional medicine works best when the right tools are used at the right time and for the right reasons. At The Center for Fully Functional Health, every recommendation is backed by testing, guided by experience, and tailored to your physiology. Below are some of the most common therapies we incorporate into patient care.

Comprehensive Lab Testing

We go beyond the basic panels you’ll find in conventional medicine. Our lab testing often includes advanced hormone panels, full thyroid evaluations, GI mapping, food sensitivity testing, mycotoxin analysis, micronutrient levels, and markers of inflammation or immune dysfunction. These results help us connect symptoms to systems and give you answers that actually explain how you feel.

Peptide Therapy

Peptides are small chains of amino acids that signal the body to perform specific functions, from repairing tissue to boosting metabolism. We use them to support healing after illness, promote lean muscle growth, regulate appetite, improve sleep, and more. Because peptide therapies are so targeted, they’re often a helpful option for patients dealing with complex or chronic issues.

IV Therapy

IV nutrient therapy delivers vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants directly into the bloodstream for immediate absorption. At CFFH, our IV formulas are carefully selected based on your lab results and needs, whether you’re addressing fatigue, detox overload, immune weakness, or mitochondrial dysfunction. Popular options include our Trim, Detox, and Immune blends.

Nutrition Planning

Nutrition is foundational to everything else we do. Our plans are medically supervised and personalized to support your health goals, whether that’s reducing inflammation, improving digestion, stabilizing blood sugar, or rebalancing hormones. We work with you to create a way of eating that’s realistic, nourishing, and tailored to your biology, not just food trends.

Red Light Therapy + PEMF

This combination therapy supports cellular repair and energy production by exposing the body to specific wavelengths of light and electromagnetic pulses. It’s particularly helpful for chronic pain, fatigue, injury recovery, and improving overall mitochondrial function. Sessions are painless and deeply relaxing. Many patients report better sleep and mental clarity after just a few treatments.

Ballancer Pro Lymphatic Drainage

This FDA-cleared compression therapy system helps improve circulation, reduce inflammation, and support detoxification. It’s often used in functional medicine to aid recovery, ease swelling, and support the body’s natural ability to eliminate toxins. Many patients also notice improvements in metabolism, bloating, and even skin tone with consistent use.

Infrared Sauna

Far infrared sauna therapy supports detox pathways by gently raising core body temperature, encouraging sweating at the cellular level. It’s a powerful tool for reducing chronic inflammation, mobilizing stored toxins, improving circulation, and supporting relaxation. We often use it in protocols for mold illness, heavy metal detox, and general immune support.

Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Hormonal imbalance can affect everything from mood and memory to sleep and metabolism. We offer individualized bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) for women and men, with options including creams, troches, and pellets. Hormone optimization is always guided by lab work and monitored closely to ensure balance, not overload.

MeRT Personalized TMS

MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, is one of the most advanced therapies we offer—especially for patients whose symptoms haven’t responded to conventional care. It uses qEEG brain mapping to create a tailored form of TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) that helps regulate brainwave activity and improve communication between regions of the brain. Patients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, cognitive fog, chronic fatigue, and long COVID have all seen meaningful changes with this therapy. Unlike one-size-fits-all protocols, MeRT is precise, data-driven, and adjusted as your brain responds. Because it requires daily sessions for four to six weeks, it’s best for those who live nearby or can stay locally, but many patients have made the temporary move because of the life-changing results. We’re one of the only clinics in the Midwest offering this level of care.

Care That Actually Sees You

Why Choose The Center for Fully Functional Health?

Most people don’t start here. They’ve already done the bloodwork. Seen the specialists. Tried the meds, the diets, the guesswork. They’ve been told everything looks normal, even when it clearly isn’t.

We take that seriously. Drs. Ellen and Scott Antoine bring decades of experience in emergency medicine, functional medicine, and complex cases that don’t fit cleanly into a diagnosis. They’ve helped thousands of patients who were told, directly or indirectly, that there was nothing left to try.

Credentials matter. But so does the way care is delivered. You’ll get time to explain your full story. You’ll sit with people who listen without rushing. And you’ll leave with a plan that feels like it came from a real understanding—not a checkbox.

Chronic fatigue. Mold illness. Autoimmune issues. Hormonal shifts. Strange clusters of symptoms no one’s been able to name. We’ve seen them, and we know how to work through them.

Your body has been trying to get your attention. We’re here to listen and help it get back to where it wants to be.

Functional MedicineFrequently Asked Questions

Not exactly. Functional medicine can include integrative or holistic tools, but it’s defined by how it approaches diagnosis and treatment: looking at root causes, not just symptoms. It’s data-driven, systems-based, and heavily personalized.

Yes. We often collaborate with primary care physicians, specialists, and therapists. Many of our patients maintain their conventional care while we help support the parts that aren’t being fully addressed, things like inflammation, gut health, hormone imbalance, or environmental exposures.

We treat a wide range of conditions, including autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, mold illness, digestive issues, hormone imbalances, neurological disorders, and pediatric conditions like PANS/PANDAS. Some patients don’t have a clear diagnosis. They just know they feel unwell, and we help investigate why.

Testing is part of the picture, but it’s not the whole approach. What makes functional medicine different is how we interpret those results, connect them to your symptoms, and build a treatment plan around the whole story, not just numbers on a page.

That depends on what we’re working with. Some patients feel relief within weeks. Others, especially those with long-standing or complex conditions, may take months to see lasting change. Either way, we track progress, retest when needed, and adjust as your body responds.

We’re considered an out-of-network provider. While some lab work may be reimbursable, most visits and services are self-pay. We’ll walk you through costs up front and provide invoices for you to submit to your insurance if you choose.
